The Turkish Ministry of Trade has sent out an order to customs and the regional directorates of foreign trade containing measures aimed at facilitating customs procedures for Syrian refugees returning of their own accord to their homeland after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said.

"The Syrian refugees who are returning to their homeland want to bring with them money, jewellery, belongings they acquired during their stay in Turkey. The circular letter that we have sent out at this stage has the task of facilitating customs procedures and helping them to overcome difficulties. We believe that these steps will activate even more Syrian refugees to return to Syria from Turkiye," the Turkish minister told TRTHaber.

According to the letter, refugees are exempted from the obligation to submit a customs declaration for money, jewellery and household items worth up to TL 25,000 (EUR 681).

A special section in the letter includes facilitations for refugees to export through customs private cars and other motor vehicles that are registered in their name and acquired during their stay in Turkiye.
