Tourism Minister Angelkova Discusses in Madrid Options for Cooperation in Her Sector


Madrid/Sofia, December 11 (BTA) - Tourism Minister Nikolina
Angelkova Wednesday discussed at working meetings with Spanish
Secretary of State for Tourism Isabel Borrego Cortes and Spanish
 Development Minister Ana Pastor Julian the opportunities for
strengthening the bilateral cooperation in tourism, Angelkova's
ministry said in a press release. The Bulgarian Tourism Minister
 paid a working visit to Madrid on Wednesday.

Ana Pastor Julian proposed options for popularizing Bulgaria in
Spain as a way to attract more tourists to the Balkan country,
Angelkova said after the meeting with the Development Minister.
One of these options is the use of Madrid's Barajas Adolfo
Suarez Airport as a platform for advertising Bulgaria as a
tourist destination. Bulgaria can also advertise itself at
Spanish railway and bus stations and on high-speed trains.

The details of Bulgaria's future advertisement as a tourist
destination in Spain will be discussed next year at a meeting of
 the joint working group for cooperation in tourism, established
 under the 2010 Memorandum of Understanding between the two
countries' tourism ministries. Technical meetings between
Bulgarian and Spanish experts will also be organized so as to
exchange information and good practices between the countries'
institutions and leading tour operators, Angelkova and the
Spanish Secretary of State for Tourism agreed.

Angelkova invited Isabel Borrego Cortes and the Development
Minister to participate in the forthcoming forum of EU tourism
ministers, for the organization of which Bulgaria has already
applied to the European Commission. The meeting will be the
first of its kind and is scheduled for mid-2015. The invitation
was accepted and Bulgaria's potential as an all-year-round
tourist destination was highly appraised.

Also discussed at Angelkova's working meetings were the details
of Bulgaria's participation in a forum on tourism as an economic
 factor, which will be held in Spain on January 27, 2015.
