ABV Leadership:Participation in Executive Branch of Government Is Beneficial

Sofia, January 16 (BTA) - The National Council of ABV assesses the party participation in the executive branch of government as beneficial. This emerged from a statement by ABV deputy leader and Deputy Prime Minister Ivailo Kalfin at a news briefing after a meeting of the Council on Saturday. According to ABV's National Council the positive steps were related to the pension reform and changes in child rearing policies. ABV are unhappy that some of the measures set out in the government's programme declaration have not been addressed yet.

According to ABV, security and foreign affairs should be among the government's priories in the following months because of the new geopolitical environment. "It will be shortsighted and harmful if Bulgaria does not take into account the negative changes in its surroundings," said Kalfin.

The other priorities should focus on the demographic policy, the health reform and the establishment of an investment fund.

Asked what would make ABV withdraw its support for the government, Kalfin said
that the party's position depends on the extent to which the programme declaration is implemented. "We are a left party and we are participating in the government with right and patriotic parties and we don't want this government to be a mechanical summation of votes in Parliament but a government which will produce policies and implement the commitments and priorities of all signed this declaration," said Kalfin.

According to him, the further destabilization of the country with sly party schemes would not be a good decision but it would be equally bad if the parties sustain out of an obligation an inefficient government.

According to Kalfin, the government's programme declaration should be revisited, new deadlines set and efforts to achieve results should be increased, "because in a few months we'll forget what we have agreed if we don't implement it."
