Peach Plum Tree Wins Innovations Competition at Agra 2016

Plovdiv, Southern Bulgaria, February 26 (BTA) - A cross between a peach and a plum won the Innovations Competition of the Agra 20016 agricultural exhibition held in the southern city of Plovdiv February 24 to 28.

The peach plum tree won in competition with 35 products of 30 companies and research institutes. Nine of them were shortlisted for the final stage of the competition.

It took the Plovdiv Institute of Fruit Growing 25 years to create the Sundesto peach/plum hybrid. The first Sundesto saplings were planted last year.

Other award-winning exhibits include a product of restoring eroded soil, a trailer for bulk cargo, a device for catching queen bees and a method for breeding a meat goal breed.

One more new hybrid made it to the final: the Gizda common winter wheat, created by the Sadovo Institute of Plant Genetic Resources.

Over 440 companies from 23 countries are participating in this edition of the Agra exhibition.

This is the biggest platform for the agri-business in Southeastern Europe.

The event is organized by International Fair Plovdiv under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in cooperation with the Agricultural Academy in Sofia.

For the fourth year in a row, the BioAgra Trade Exhibition of Organic Farming is held in partnership with the Avalon Foundation of the Netherlands.
