All Institutions for Orphan Children in Bulgaria to be Closed within Two Years

Sofia, June 27 (BTA) - All institutions for children without parental care in Bulgaria will be closed within two years, Labour and Social Policy Minister Zornitsa Roussinova told reporters on Monday. About 650 such children are in institutional care now, Roussinova said.

As of the end of 2015, Bulgaria no longer has institutions for children with disabilities. The children that used to live there now live in sheltered homes, in a family-like environment under the care of teams of social workers, psychologists and doctors.

In the period 2014-2020 the funding allocated for the closure of the remaining institutions for children totals 650 million euro from the European Social Fund and about 100 million euro from the Regions in Growth Operational Programme.
