Border Police Prevent 126 Migrants from Crossing Illegally Bulgarian-Turkish Border

Sofia, August 16 (BTA) - Border police from the Elhovo Regional Border Police Force Directorate stopped 111 migrants from crossing illegally into Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday. The migrants were in four groups.

Another group of 11 foreigners without IDs was detained at the Svilengrad Border Police Department. The people alleged they were Syrians. They were accompanied by a 30-year old man from Haskovo. Another two men were detained as accomplices. Investigation on the case continues.

In a separate development, border officers of the Malko Turnovo Directorate detained three foreigners without documents who said they were Afghans.

In the meantime, specialized operations for tracking down illegal aliens in the country continue. During the past 24 hours, the Sofia police checked 200 people and detained 153 of them to establish their identity and origin. They are to be referred to the competent services.
