The wholesale price of fruit went up in the past week up to January 24, according to data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets released on Sunday. The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria went up by 0.27% to 2.254 points. Last week, the index stood at 2.248 points.

The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Tangerines and apples appreciated the most in the past week, by 8.5% to BGN 2.61 per kilogram and by 7.4% to BGN 1.83/kg, respectively. Oranges went up by 5.1% to BGN 2.10 per kg. Bananas appreciated by 0.2% to BGN 2.71/kg and grapefruit, by 0.8% to BGN 2.64/kg. Lemons appreciated by 2.1% to BGN 2.22/kg.

Cabbage saw the largest increase in the past week, by 9.7% to BGN 1.45/kg. Potatoes appreciated by 3.8%, and traded at BGN 1.30/kg. Greenhouse cucumbers went down by 1,3% to BGN 3.57 per kilogram and tomatoes, by 2.7% to BGN 3.42/kg. The price of lettuce dropped by 5.4% to BGN 1.20 per piece. Carrots appreciated by 5.9% to BGN 1.32/kg, and onions by 6% to BGN 1.20/kg.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk increased by 2.4% to BGN 11.70/kg, while that of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type edged down by 0.1% at BGN 17.64/kg. Yoghurt (with a fat content of 3% and over) appreciated by 5.5% and traded at BGN 1.37 for 400 grammes, while fresh milk (with a fat content of 3%) depreciated by 0.7% to BGN 2.41 per litre.  The price of butter from cow's milk went down as well, by 0.8% to BGN 3.05 per 125 grammes.

The wholesale price of poultry went down by 0.6% to BGN 6.44/kg and of eggs (size M), by 2.9% to BGN 0.345 per piece.

Rice appreciated by 0.9% and traded at BGN 3.32/kg and flour (type 500), by 3.5% to BGN 1.49/kg. Lentils appreciated by 0.1% and traded at BGN 4.36/kg. The price of cooking oil went up as well, by 2.1% to BGN 3.24/litre, and so did that of sugar, by 1.5% to BGN 1.91/kg.
