GERB's Presidential Candidate for November 6 Elections to be Announced by October 2
Sofia, August 29 (BTA) - GERB, the main party in the ruling coalition, has chosen its runner in the November 6 presidential elections but the candidate's name will be announced by October 2, according to what GERB Deputy Chairman Tsvetan Tsvetanov said on the national television on Monday.
"I can say that our presidential candidate is already clear. Our chapters nationwide are ready and accept the decision which is to be finalized at a meeting of the party's Executive Commission," Tsvetanov said. Although GERB has said that the party will announce its runner in mid-September, Tsvetanov said that this will be done later, by October 2. He said that the delay is not because "we do not have a decision" but in order to allow for the government and Parliament to work normally "during all these months".
Tsvetanov said that GERB does not need to undertake coordination of the candidacy similar to the procedure in the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the ABV Movement and the Reformist Bloc "who do not have a united stand". He said that GERB is a systemic party.
Tsvetanov said that GERB's runner is sufficiently recognizable in Europe and a mediator "who can cope in the complex international situation".
Tsvetanov assessed the term of incumbent President Rosen Plevneliev as "extremely difficult", recalling that the head of State had to form two caretaker cabinets.
