Nationalist Parties Demand Closure of  Refugee Centres

Harmanli,Southern Bulgaria, September 4 (BTA) - "Our three political organizations, the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) - Bulgarian National Movement, National Front for Bulgaria's Salvation and Ataka, insist on immediate closure of the refugee centres in this country and displacement of their inhabitants, who are not at all wretched refugees but illegal migrants, back to Turkey, the country from which they have come here," MEP Angel Djambazki said at a march and rally in Harmanli.

The existence of these centres are a threat to the national security. So far the European policy regarding illegal migration has been confused, inconsistent and hypocritical, he noted.

The protest has been prompted by a a big outbreak of unrest in the registration and placement facility in Harmanli, Southern Bulgaria, last weekend. A conflict broke out there between 800 occupants of the facility. The unrest was brought under control towards 1 a.m. on Monday. Two migrants sustained head injuries. The windshield of a police patrol car that came to the scene of the unrest was broken.

Europe's capacity for accepting migrants has been filled and, if the pressure continues, the social and educational systems of the EU countries will collapse, Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said in Varna in Sunday. Mitov and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov were there to get familiarized with the building of the St. Prokopii of Varna Church. Bulgaria's top diplomat noted that an agreement about more constructive talks with Turkey was reached at the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Bratislava.

"At bilateral level, Bulgaria should also work with Turkey so that, prior to the launching of the readmission agreement, we could have a mechanism for return of third-country nationals having crossed illegally the Bulgarian border," he added.

On his part, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that at his next meeting with the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Mitov should raise the issue of the return of this country's nationals having entered illegally into Bulgaria.

Bulgaria spends around 80 million leva annually in order to maintain a contingent in Afghanistan so that this country could have peace, Borissov observed.
