Traicho Traikov Definitively Nominated for President by Reformist Bloc

Sofia, September 8 (BTA) - Former economy and energy minister Traicho Traikov was definitively named Thursday as the presidential candidate of the Reformist Bloc ahead of the November 6 presidential elections. The decision was made by the coalition's Executive Council. Traikov, who was proposed for the post by the Citizens' Board of the Reformist Bloc, will run together with Subi Subev as a candidate for vice-president.

Traikov was nominated by the Executive Council on September 1. On Wednesday, however, the Union of Democratic Forces confirmed its support for Grozdan Karadjov. So, the joint candidature of the Reformist Bloc parties was under question until the last moment.

After the results of the Thursday vote, however, UDF leader Bozhidar Loukarski said that they accept the decision and will support the joint candidate.

Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Chair Radan Kanev said that the Traikov-Subev tandem has gathered over three thirds of the votes of the Executive Council.

It is very important to give an opportunity to the people to vote for people that do not only make promises but have also shown what they can do for them, said Traikov.
