Audit Office Publishes Reports of Participants in Last Presidential Elections

Sofia, January 4 (BTA) - The National Audit Office has published the reports on the proceeds, costs and obligations for payment related to the election campaign for president and vice president of Bulgaria in 2016 as submitted by the participants in the campaign, the office said Wednesday.

The participants in the campaign totaled 21 parties, coalitions and initiative committees, 20 of which have submitted their reports. One participant has not fulfilled this obligation as provided by the Election Code - the "For Bisser Georgiev Milanov" Initiative Committee.

A person who does not submit a report, be it one representing a party or a committee, is liable to be fined from 2,000 to 10,000 leva, the press release notes.

The Audit Office has also published the information it has received relevant to suppliers of media services, social surveys, advertisement agencies and PR agencies.

The Audit Office has also begun the audit of participants in the election related to proceeds and costs exceeding 1,000 leva. According to preliminary data, all 20 participants have exceeded this sum.

This audit involves factual and documentary inspection of donations, of goods and services provided free of charge, the existence of a statement relevant to the origin of the funds when they exceed the minimum salary, whether the funds exceeding 1,000 leva have been transferred and whether information for publication in the Standard Register under the Election Code has been submitted on time.

The Audit Office will also check the compliance between the amount of the funds donated by natural persons for the election campaign when these funds exceed 1,000 leva, as well as abidance by the statutory bans for funding and supporting the election campaign, among others.

The reports are published in the Standard Register accessible through the Audit Office website at bulnao.government.bg.
