President Plevneliev to Diplomats: 2016 Was Very Strong Year for Bulgaria

Sofia, January 12 (BTA) - Addressing the heads of diplomatic missions at the traditional New Year's reception, President Rosen Plevneliev said 2016 was a very strong year for Bulgaria: a year marked by great international recognition for this country, record high economic growth, record low unemployment, and important economic and foreign policy achievements.

Last year set a record in the number of visits by foreign heads of State as 25 presidents visited Bulgaria, which is a sign that it won recognition for its balanced, principled foreign policy and its active position on the international scene, said Plevneliev.

He added: "We offer solutions, we stand up for positions, we are a factor. We are friends to everyone in the region, a trusted partner in the EU, and a strong ally in NATO."

"We achieved much and are looking confidently forward," said Plevneliev. "In 2017 there will not be fewer challenges. Against the backdrop of enormous instability around the world, a record large number of crises, migrants, terror attacks - Bulgaria did well. Its economy did well, unemployment was low, and the markets' confidence, the banks' stress tests, and statements by investors and partners tell us one thing: we trust you, outlook stable, growth expected."
