Passenger Traffic via Sofia Airport Increases by 43% in January 2017, Y/Y

Sofia, February 16 (BTA) - A record-setting 468,968 passengers were handled by Sofia Airport in January 2017, increasing by 43 per cent compared with January 2016, the airport management said on Thursday.

The monthly passenger flow through the airport's Terminal 1 increased by 69 per cent to 216,000 people. The flow through Terminal 2 expanded by 28 per cent, which resulted from the transfer of some flights from the old to the new terminal in the middle of the month.

Charter flight passengers handled by Sofia Airport rose by 27 per cent in January 2017 compared with January 2016. Domestic flight passengers went up by 13 per cent.

A total of 4,529 airplane landings and takeoffs were performed at the airport during the month in review, going up by 25 per cent, year on year.

The monthly amount of cargo and mail processed by Sofia Airport increased by 17 per cent to 1,539 tonnes.
