Leadership of Right-wing Bulgaria for Citizens Movement Resigns

Sofia, April 4 (BTA) - The leadership of the right-wing Bulgaria for the Citizens Movement resigns, leader of the formation Meglena Kuneva told a news conference Tuesday. The decision for the resignation was made at a meeting of the movement's Executive Council earlier on the same day. The resignation was given as a way to share the responsibility for the election loss of the Reformist Bloc at the March 26 early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria. The Bulgaria for the Citizens Movement is part of the Reformist Bloc.

Dimiter Delchev and Anthony Trenchev were elected deputy chairmen of the movement and will lead it until a congress is held in the end of May. Kuneva is expected to run again for leader of Bulgaria for the Citizens. "I remain strongly committed to the cause of the Bulgaria for the Citizens and will continue to participate in every instance of creation, every step forward of the Movement," Kuneva said.

Delchev urged for creating "a platform of unity of action" of all people championing the real change in the judicial system, the fight against corruption, actual reforms of health care and education. In his words, this platform will not be a joining together in order to pass the 4 per cent barrier for entry in Parliament but a platform for joint actions with people and networks.

In the new Parliament the Bulgaria for the Citizens Movement will be in opposition. Delchev argued that the talks on the formation of the new cabinet are not conducted in an transparent manner and the making of the government will depend on serious compromises as the platforms of the parties are "irreconcilable".

According to Delchev, the two main factors for the poor performance of the rightist formations in the elections, none of which managed to enter Parliament, were vote buying and corporate voting on the one hand, and the fact that the formations opted to run individually.
