ICT Companies in Bulgaria Generate 4.5 Per Cent of Gross Added Value - Economy Minister

Sofia, April 13 (BTA) - The Economy Ministry will continue its active policy to establish Bulgaria as a promising destination for investment and business, caretaker Economy Minister Teodor Sedlarski said during the Sixth Annual Roundtable entitled, "ICT Sector: Export-oriented Generator of Jobs with High Added Value", Sedlarski's Ministry said in a press release Thursday.

The event is organized by ICT Media and the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies.

Sedlarski said that the Economy Ministry has already demonstrated its intention to make Bulgaria a digital hub on the Balkans during the Digital Day that took place on 23 March 2017 in Rome as part of the official celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome. The Minister said that in ICT, Bulgaria overtakes some of the EU Member States. The companies in the sector generate 4.5 per cent of the gross value added, while nearly 74 per cent of their staff are under 40 years, Sedlarski said.

About 10,000 companies work in the ICT sector in Bulgaria, having an aggregate turnover of more than 1 billion euro annually. The forecasts are that by 2020, the turnover and the number of people working in the sector will double.
