January 5 (BTA) - Bulgarian Consul to Valencia Plamen Georgiev will be recalled, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said ahead of Wednesday's Cabinet meeting. According to Petkov, Georgiev was appointed entirely for political reasons, without being professionally connected to the position.

"This will be the symbol that this type of political appointments are not the method and way in which things will happen from now on," the Prime Minister said.

Georgiev was appointed Consul to Valencia by the Government of Boyko Borissov in August 2019. Before that he headed the Counter-corruption and Unlawfully Acquired Assets Forfeiture Commission, a position he resigned from amid the so-called Apartmentgate scandal where him and other high-ranking officials had allegedly struck real estate deals on a fraction of market prices.
