The cabinet Wednesday adopted a National Map of Social Services as provided for by the Social Services Act, the government information service said. The map introduces national planning of social services financed from the state budget. The document commits the State to create a complete network of social services across the country in the long term so as to ensure equal access to all people who need support.

The map includes all social and integrated health-and-social services at municipal and regional level for which funding is provided from the state budget, and specifies the maximum number of users. The document has been developed at municipal, regional and national level.

The document was drawn up by the Social Assistance Agency on the basis of analysis of the need for social services at national level. The map places people's real needs in the centre of the planning process. Municipalities will play a leading role in providing a minimum package of social services at regional and municipal level.
