The entire project for the repair of the Lake Varna pipeline will be completed at the beginning of 2025, said on Wednesday Iliya Stoychev, Manager at Hydroremont IG, which performs the repair works.

The pipe will be at a depth of 22 metres below sea level and the length of the replaced section will be about 820 metres, with backfill on top of the pipe so that there is no possibility of compromising the section in the future. Stoychev noted that the process of the entire repair works will last about 224 days and the company plans to have 80% of the work completed by the end of 2024.

Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev said that with the completion of the project, the pipeline will be protected and connected to the treatment plant in the village of Topoli. The project aims to replace the compromised section of the wastewater pipe in Lake Varna and has a value of slightly over BGN 20 million, financed by the Finance Ministry.

Kotsev also said that this is the last phase in the deepening of Lake Varna, adding that with the completion of this project, the channel will be deepened to 13.5 metres, which enables the entry of much larger ships at the ports of the lake.
