Speaking to journalists in Parliament here on Wednesday, Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) co-leader Kiril Petkov said that there was an initiative to remove Raya Nazaryan from the post of National Assembly Chair.

"There was such an initiative, but after very long discussions from our point of view, we decided that the only way to truly tackle the "Peevski" model [referring MRF co-leader Delyan Peevski] in the long-term is with the trust of the Bulgarian citizens. All other technical and procedural options are unsustainable in the long-run," Petkov said.

Under the Constitution, the National Assembly chair is part of the pool of potential candidates from which the President can select a caretaker prime minister.

The "Peevski" model [of governance] cannot be eradicated through "small techncial moves," Petkov said in response to a question about who should be elected as caretaker prime minister. Petkov spoke to the media after he and Parliament Chair Raya Nazaryan opened an exhibition titled "Children of War". The exhibition of children's drawings was organized on the initiative of the CC-DB Parliamentary Group, whose opening was also attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk.

Asked about the assessment of the caretaker ministers, Petkov said that his assessment of Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov was very negative. "My fear is that with Kalin Stoyanov as minister, the elections will not be fair, as was the case the last time".
