Political attacks against the Interior Ministry continue, the Ministry said in a position paper released on Wednesday.

The allegations thrown into the public domain by an MP and co-chairman of a political party that the last parliamentary elections were unfair are not just untrue. Such barefaced statements are also in complete contradiction with the assessment of the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), according to which the elections were free, transparent, well prepared and well conducted, the position paper reads.

"We are obliged to defend the professional honour and dignity of the employees of the Ministry of the Interior, whose daily efforts are for the sake of a peaceful and secure Bulgaria. We believe that the society will not allow itself to fall victim to fallacies, subordinated to the idea of accumulating political dividends," the position said.

Earlier in the day, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) co-leader Kiril Petkov said his assessment of Minister Kalin Stoyanov was very negative. "My fear is that with Kalin Stoyanov as minister, the elections will not be fair, as was the case the last time," Petkov said.
