Sofia, June 8 (BTA) - Sofia University has been named in the segment from 701st to 750th place in the QS World University Rankings for 2017, which were published on Thursday. The rankings include about 26,000 higher schools around the world. This puts the oldest and most prestigious Bulgarian university in the top 2.7 per cent worldwide, the press office of Sofia University reported on Thursday.

The institution has never slipped below 863rd place in the QS World University Rankings since it was first included six years ago. It is the only Bulgarian higher education establishment named on the prestigious list since 2012.

The annual QS World University Rankings, compiled for the 14th time this year, evaluate universities according to six metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty (which measure research quality), international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.

In another index, called QS University Rankings: EECA 2016, Sofia University is placed 46th among the universities of Emerging Europe and Central Asia. The high quality of modern language teaching at Sofia University is reflected in the fact that the institution is in the segment from 251st to 300th place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016.
