Sofia's Air Was Cleaner
Last Winter:
City Hall

Sofia, June 21 (BTA) - Air pollution with particulate matter in Sofia this past winter was not as bad as in previous winters, according to a new report by the Environment Agency made public by Sofia City Hall on Thursday. The Agency said in January-March 2018 the exceedences of particulate matter in Sofia's ambient air were 100 fewer than this time last year.

The decline is both quantitative and qualitative, with reported quarterly average concentrations varying between 30 and 53 хg/m3, while a year earlier they were in the 52-77 хg/m3 range.

A "green ticket" was introduced in Sofia's public transport for the first time last winter. The daily "green" pass for all lines costs 1 lev and it has proven effective when the particles exceed 200 хg/m3 for at least two consecutive days at two urban automatic stations or at four urban automatic stations in one day. These conditions were recorded on January 28 when nearly 30,000 Sofianites purchased "green" tickets. BR/
