Hundreds of visitors gathered for the official opening of the newly built Valley of Thracian Kings complex near Kazanlak on Tuesday. It is the first of its kind in the country and aims to present and develop the cultural and historical heritage of the region.

Kazanlak Mayor Galina Stoyanova opened the ceremony and thanked everyone who worked with the Kazanlak Municipality for over a year on the development and promotion of the endless riches of the Valley of Thracian Kings. "This is the result of long-term efforts to change the fact that tourists pass through the Valley for a day and do not stay in Kazanlak. This attraction is a place where tourists will stay and not just pass by," said Stoyanova.

Archaeologist Prof Nikolay Ovcharov presented the model of the ancient city of Sevtopolis in the center of the complex and said that "here we have reached the maximum that historical science knows at this stage." According to him, the complex makes it possible for the Thracian tombs in the region to come alive, while also separating the authentic historical tombs from the reenactments.

Official guests at the opening included among others Stara Zagora Regional Governor Iva Radeva, Metropolitan Cyprian of Stara Zagora, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Commander of the 61st Stryamska Mechanized Brigade Margarit Mihailov, Rector of Trakia University Prof Dobri Yarkov, as well as MPs Krasimir Valchev and Iliana Zhekova.
