An Honorary Consulate of Romania opened in Plovdiv Friday. An opening ceremony at the Congress Center of the Plovdiv International Fair was hosted by Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria Brandusa Predescu and Dr. Dimitar Beleliev, Honorary Consul of Romania in Plovdiv.
Ambassador Predescu thanked the Bulgarian government for electing Dimitar Beleliev as Honorary Consul of Romania in Plovdiv and expressed satisfaction that the interests of Romanian citizens in Bulgaria will be protected in so many regions across the country. She noted that Bulgaria and Romania face a number of challenges, being so close to an ongoing war, and that both countries are doing the best they can to work in perfect cooperation. The opening of the Honorary Consulate is a new step towards the development of bilateral relations, Predescu stated.
Beleliev drew attention to the partnership between the two countries in cultural, historical and economic terms as well. "Bilateral trade relations are dynamic. The potential for joint initiatives in the field of education and culture is enormous", he said, accentuating on the importance of the city of Plovdiv for the development of these initiatives.
Among the guests at the opening ceremony were Nikola Minchev, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov, Pazardzhik Mayor Petar Kulenski, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and the non-governmental sector. The Honorary Consulate will be housed in the administrative building of the Plovdiv International Fair and will serve the regions of Plovdiv, Lovech, Gabrovo, Haskovo, Kardjali, Smolyan, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil. It is the third honorary consulate that Romania opens in Bulgaria after those in Burgas and Silistra.
