The 80th anniversary of the opening of the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak will be celebrated with a special event including a reenactment show in April, the local administration said on Thursday.

The reenactment will reproduce scenes from the best-preserved frescoes from the early Hellenistic era in the space around the Thracian Tomb.

It will be organized by the Iskra Historical Museum and the Cohors II Lucensium reenactment group, with help from archaeologists of the Yambol Historical Museum.

"The scenes from the Thracian Tomb are extremely important, priceless from a scientific point of view, as they provide irreplaceable information about the life, clothing, food, customs, warfare and weaponry of the Thracians", said Dr. Momchil Marinov, Director of Iskra Historical Museum.

The Kazanlak Tomb was accidentally discovered on April 19, 1944 by soldiers who were digging a trench in the northeastern part of the town. The cultural monument was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. In the 1990s archaeologists rediscovered the riches of the Kazanlak Valley and called it the Valley of the Thracian Kings. More than a thousand mound necropolises have been discovered in the area, which will be seen in a new tourist attraction to be opened soon, said the local administration.
