A Christmas tree was lit up in the centre of the Moldovan town of Taraclia, where the population is mostly Bulgarian. The tree is 15 metres tall and adorned with festive lights, balls and decorations.

The festive event started with a procession along the main street. The parade was led by Santa Claus, Snow White, Mayor Vyacheslav Lupov and the guests of honour.

Dozens of children with their parents came out to the square to enjoy the lighting ceremony, which marked the start of the winter holidays.

The Town Hall prepared a musical and entertainment programme with free attractions for children, competitions and games with animators.

The festive atmosphere was complemented by Christmas music by the orchestra located in the park next to the square. Every child had the opportunity for a photo with the Santa and Snow White.

"On the eve of our wonderful holidays, I want to wish you all the best and most importantly, what we have understood in recent years, health and peaceful skies over our heads. And then all will be well. And we, in turn, will do everything possible and impossible to make life in our country, in our city, much better, more pleasant and interesting," Vyacheslav Lupov greeted the people of Taraclia.

The celebration continued with the concert of world-famous Moldovan band DoReDoS and other artists. In Moldova, for several years now, December 25 has been declared a holiday - a new-style Christmas, but in Taraclia most people will celebrate Christmas in the old style, on January 7.
