Bulgarians from Odesa and Bessarabia gathered for the press launch of Yordan Eftimov’s collection of poems “Before They Wash the Blood” at BTA National Press Club in Odesa.

The book was written between March and September 2022 and looks not only at the war but at the media information in which people are constantly submerged.

Eftimov said: “The war is not only a situation where many people stand against many other people armed and are shooting. The war is the violence and it always exists in the everyday lives of people.”

In his address, Bulgaria’s Consul General in Odesa Svetoslav Ivanov said that the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarian is a important holiday both for Bulgarians in Ukraine and in Bulgaria. “We haven’t gathered for more than three years. I’ve waited for this day with a huge heart. This is an example how bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine may develop. This is one example which shows Bulgaria’s support for Ukraine. Bulgaria condemns strongly Russia’s aggression and supports Ukraine in its European integration,” said the Bulgarian diplomat.

Jaroslava Riznikova, deputy head of the department for culture, nationalities and religions with the Odesa Regional Military Administration, expressed greetings and gratitude to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) as an organizer of events, dedicated to the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarians. "It is symbolic that today here the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarian is marked. The members of the Bulgarian community in Odesa District actively participate in the life of Odesa and its region. They form our Ukrainian community, which is made up of different nationalities, including from the Bulgarian ethnicity,” said Riznikova. According to her, it is very important that a book by the Bulgarian writer and poet is presented in Odesa, in which he ponders about the war in Ukraine . " This is a great tragedy for Ukraine and for the entire Ukrainian people, which includes many nationalities and which the Russians are destroying. Among them are many representatives of the Bulgarian community ", she added.

Representatives of the cities of Izmail, Bolhrad and Tarutino  and of the Bulgarian villages Zarya, Gorodnee, Rovno and from Odesa itself arrived for the event at the BTA National Club in Odesa and dedicated to the Day of Bessarabian Bulgarians.
