The caretaker government Wednesday approved the provision of BGN 929,019 in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Armenia in the form of voluntary contributions to international organisations. The funds will be directed to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the World Food Programme.
The necessary funding will be provided from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's budget allocated for development aid and humanitarian assistance, the Government Information Service said.

The approved assistance in the form of voluntary contributions to international organisations is in line with the priorities set out in the Medium-Term Development Assistance and Humanitarian Aid Programme of the Republic of Bulgaria for the 2020-2024 period. In accordance with the basic humanitarian principles, priority shall be given to humanitarian emergencies caused by armed conflicts and natural disasters.

Bulgaria will continue to be part of EU and international efforts to address global humanitarian challenges, the press release reads.
