Negotiation teams from GERB-UDF, Democratic Bulgaria (DB), BSP - United Left, and There Is Such a People (TISP) discussed proposals for a draft governance agreement at the National Assembly, GERB said on their Facebook page on Thursday.
The discussion centred on setting governance priorities and establishing decision-making processes for a future ruling majority.
The discussion about the scope and details of the governance agreement is ongoing. The goal is to clarify the nature of governance and key policies, while also ensuring commitments to judicial reform and anti-corruption measures, the statement said.
On December 30, 2024, negotiation teams from GERB-UDF and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) met in the National Assembly and presented drafts of a coalition agreement. Both political forces shared this information in identical statements on their official Facebook pages.
Work on reaching an agreement on a text for a coalition agreement will continue, the two forces said. They reported that a joint meeting between them, BSP - United Left and There Is Such a People will also be held, however, a date is yet to be specified.
Earlier in December 2024, negotiating teams of GERB-UDF and DB held a series of meetings, reaching consensus on advancing energy projects like Kozloduy N-Plant Units 7 and 8, promoting renewable energy investments, implementing reforms under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, improving cybersecurity and modernizing security services, and stabilizing public finances with a focus on anti-corruption and pro-European governance.
During the same month, DB's coalition partner, Continue the Change (CC), part of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB)'s coalition group, said it was closely monitoring the negotiation process, despite not taking part in it. CC's Co-Chair Kiril Petkov said that the party will not join the negotiations until GERB-UDF signs the proposed cordon sanitaire (sanitary cordon) around the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning coalition chaired by Delyan Peevski and until the agenda includes the topic of finding a prime minister equidistant from all parties.
Negotiations between GERB and BSP - United Left also took place in December 2024, with both parties agreeing on the need to form an anti-corruption majority with a pro-European character, adopt a balanced budget, ensure social security, and foster a stable investment climate. GERB prioritized eurozone entry, while BSP - United Left emphasized reducing social inequality through contributions from the super-rich, with both sides committing to integrate these measures into a legislative program agreement.
