Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for US President, claimed "magnificent victory for the American people" in the November 4 elections. He addressed supporters who have gathered for an election night watch party at the Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida. He did not wait for the final vote count.

His speech was broadcast live on American TV channels.

The former President (2017-2021) promised to "heal" America, thanked American people for the honour of electing him and promised to work for every citizen.

He said that "God saved" him in the two assaults on him, to "save America".

Trump's running mate, J.D. Vance said Trump made "the greatest political comeback in the United States of America".

Vote counting in many polling stations continues but the loss of Trump's rival, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, seems increasingly certain as the decisive states have voted for the 78-year-old Trump.

Fox News were the first to declare Trump the winner. They were followed shortly by three leading news channels: NBC, CBS and ABC.

According to inconclusive results of various media outlets, the Republican candidate has taken Georgia, North Carolina and most of all Pennsylvania, the key of the seven decisive states.

Trump already has 277 votes in the electoral college against 224 for Harris. It takes 270 votes to win this election.
