Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President Stefka Kostadinova outlined her priorities if she wins a new term at the helm of the organization. Kostadinova is one of two candidates, along with Vessela Lecheva, for the BOC leadership position.
The BOC general assembly will elect the next President on March 19.
Kostadinova said in an interview for the official website of the national Olympic Committee that her main task, if she wins the elections, will be to provide more money for sports so that Bulgarian athletes receive training conditions equal to those of the world’s elite. Another goal is to finalize the BOC’s long-standing efforts to acquire its own modern new headquarters. She will also strive for even greater engagement with the activities and problems of sports federations, not only in Olympic years, but throughout the entire Olympic cycle.
During her current term, the BOC celebrated 100 years since its founding, and Bulgaria was officially recognized as one of the co-founders of the modern Olympic Games, which Kostadinova considers a significant achievement. She also pointed out that the last two Summer Olympics in Tokyo and Paris were the most successful for the country in the 21st century with a total of 6 titles and 13 awards.
Kostadinova also noted the significant increase in funds provided to support elite sports and young talents under the Olympic Solidarity programme in the amount of over BGN 1.2 million, the continuation of the tradition of organizing national youth winter and summer Olympic festivals, the organization and support for dozens of events and activities for at-risk youth and people in disadvantaged situations.
