The Bulgarian Davis Cup team was relegated to World Group II after a 0-3 loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina. After trailing 0-2 on Saturday, the Bulgarian tennis team lost the doubles match on Sunday which concluded the tie. Alexander Donski and Alexandar Lazarov were close to winning the first set against Mirza Basic and Damir Dzhumhur but lost 6-7(10) 3-6.
The matches were held in Burgas.
In the first singles match on Saturday, Bulgaria's second highest ranked male player Dimitar Kuzmanov (world No. 225) lost 6-3 3-6 4-6 to world No. 204 Nerman Fatic.
Yanaki Milev (world No. 550) lost 3-6 2-6 to former world No. 23 Damir Dzumhur, who is currently No. 147 in the ATP rankings.
Bulgaria's top ranked male player Grigor Dimitrov (No. 13) and the country's third best ranked best player Adrian Andreev (No. 261) are not part of the Davis Cup team.
In February 2023 Bulgaria qualified for World Group I for the first time since the format changes of the competition, after winning against New Zealand in a qualifier. The last time the Bulgarian national team was part of the second tier of Davis Cup was in 1988 when it was called Group I.
In September 2023 Bulgaria lost 1-3 to Kazakhstan.
