Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov met with UK Ambassador to Bulgaria Nathaniel Copsey, the Cabinet press office said on Monday. The two discussed the opportunities for deepening the strategic cooperation between Bulgaria and the UK in key areas - security, economy, migration and sustainable development, with a focus on concrete results and effective coordination mechanisms, beyond formal alliances.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the UK remains a key partner for Bulgaria in the dynamic geopolitical environment and enhanced cooperation under NATO, including in the fight against disinformation and hybrid threats.

Opportunities for expanding economic relations were also discussed, focusing on investment, innovation and energy security. Zafirov outlined the development of nuclear energy as a strategic priority, including the construction of new capacities and diversification of sources.

In the context of European integration, Zafirov presented Bulgaria's progress on the path to membership of the Eurozone and the OECD, stressing that these are key steps towards a modern, sustainable economy and a clearly defined foreign policy direction.

Special attention was also paid to the Bulgarian community in the UK. Appreciation was expressed for the consistent commitment of British institutions to its protection and access to services.

"This partnership has the potential to be even more beneficial - not only because we share common values, but because we share common responsibilities. Time does not tolerate formalities - action is needed. Today's meeting was a step in that direction," Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said in conclusion.
