Goods carried by freight land and water transport dropped by 28.1% in the third quarter of 2024, while the transport performance was down by 22.7% in comparison with the same quarter of 2023, according to preliminary data published by the National Statistical Institute on Monday.
In the third quarter of 2024, there was a decrease of 2.7% in the goods carried by freight transport and a decrease of 10.2% in the transport performance in comparison with the previous quarter, according to preliminary and seasonally adjusted data.
The number of passengers carried by passenger transport (land, water and urban electrical transport) saw an annual increase of 16.9%, as did the transport performance, which recorded a 9.7% increase.
Goods carried by land transport in the third quarter of 2024 totalled 29.9404 million tonnes, which was 29% less year-on-year. National carriages declined by 29.5%, while the international ones decreased by 27.8%. Transport performance stood at 7.944 billion tkm, which was 24.6% down on the same quarter of the previous year.
Goods transported by sea and inland waterway transport were 63,600 tonnes more than in the third quarter of 2023 due to the greater volumes of goods carried by inland waterway transport. Transport performance measured in tonne-kilometres increased by 103.5% compared to the same period of the previous year due to the greater distance travelled.
Some 94,418,000 passengers were transported by land transport, up 10.4% year-on-year. Bus passengers increased by 11.6%, while rail passengers dropped by 5.3%. Transport performance reached 2.5835 billion passenger-kilometres, an increase 5.9% from the corresponding quarter of 2023.
