On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Vice President Iliana Iotova said in a Facebook post that the pandemic of violence against women and domestic violence is growing, and that everyone knows such a victim, which is the most truthful statistic. The Vice President stressed that violence is not a personal, but a public problem.

"Does violence stop on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women?! Hardly! For victims of violence, it doesn't matter what day it is today. They need our attention, help, support every day, and most importantly, justice," Iotova argued.

The insufficient public sensitivity and the inaction of institutions, the politicization of the issue are another "slap on the bloody face and trampled dignity", Iotova wrote.

While politicians who claim to rule Bulgaria are immersed in "courtship", every day Bulgarians suffer from widespread impunity, falling into the trap of legal absurdities created by the lack of thoughtfulness of the Bulgarian legislator, argued Iotova.

According to UN statistics published on Monday, every 10 minutes a woman is murdered in the world. In the past 2023, at least 85,000 women and girls were intentionally killed around the world, with most of them falling victim to their loved ones, according to the data contained in a UN report. The world organization speaks of an alarming level of murders of women and indicates that these crimes could have been avoided.
