site.btaUnemployment Down 0.1% in EU, Up 0.4% in Bulgaria in January, Y/Y

In January 2024, the unemployment rate in the EU decreased by 0.1% year on year to 6.0%, Eurostat said on its website on Friday. In Bulgaria, the rate reached 4.4%, which is an increase by 0.4% from January 2023 and by 0.1% from December 2023.

In the first month of 2024, there were 133,000 unemployed in Bulgaria. The youth unemployment rate grew to 15.8% from 9.1% in January 2023 and 14.4% in December 2023. By gender, 4.5% of the unemployed were men and 4.3% were women.

In the EU, the unemployed numbered 13,144 million, down by 10,000 from January 2023 and up by 7,000 from December 2023. Unemployed under-25s constituted 14.9% of the unemployed in the Union, remaining a stable number. By gender, 6.3% of the unemployed were women and 5.7% were men, remaining unchanged year on year and month on month.
