Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Agriculture and Food Minister Kiril Vatev are due to open Thursday a State Laboratory for Pesticide Control at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Bulgaria-Turkiye border, said the government press office.

The press release says that the capacity of the laboratory will ensure timely and effective control without unnecessary delays. The laboratory was built on an investment of BGN 2 million from the state budget.

"With the opening of the laboratory, the State finally establishes control of the food entering Bulgaria," the Council of Ministers said.

On February 16, 2024, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) announced that they had drafted amendments to the Agri-Food Chain Management Act, which ban private laboratories from the country's external borders. They also propose that within a year the State sets in place an organization for loading and unloading operations, to replace the current private operator.
