National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) has incorporated a modern information system that will assist in the planning and management of train movement in Bulgaria. The Train Work Management System has been developed under an EU project and is one of the most modern software solutions in this field, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said in a press release Friday.

The software is expected to be put into operation in December 2023.

The system will be of a great benefit to NRIC's employees as well as railway carriers, who will be able to easily plan their transportation and make inquiries at any given moment, Deputy Transport Minister Bisser Minchev said during a presentation on the project's results. In his words, that will allow for more effective planning of the railway infrastructure's capacity and automated calculation of infrastructure fees, which is of great use to businesses.

Minchev noted that in addition to renovating the rolling stock, reconstructing the railway lines and train stations, the modernization of the railway transport requires digitization in the management of services. These are important processes that remain hidden from passengers but are an inseparable part of the daily work at the centres for managing railway traffic, he added.

Attending the presentation were representatives of the  NRIC, the contractor, businesses, and others.

The project for designing and incorporating the Train Work Management System in the NRIC is funded under Operational Programme Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020. The project is worth BGN 7,196,900.
