site.btaAsylum Seekers in Austria Did 250,000 Hrs of Community Service in Past Eight Months


Asylum seekers in Austria have done 250,000 hours of community service since July 2024, the Interior Ministry reported. Some 70% of the asylum seekers accommodated by the social assistance services of the federal government, did landscaping work. The rest refused this work offer and received lower financial assistance of EUR 40 of monthly allowance.
Asylum seekers are required to put up 10 hours of community service a month to receive their full social assistance.
The requirement does not apply to under-16s and people with disabilities.
