Bulgaria's gross external debt amounted to EUR 44.0556 billion at end-June 2023 (46.1% of the central bank forecast GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank reported here Wednesday. The debt grew by EUR 2.3122 billion (5.5%) from end-June 2022.

Short-term liabilities equalled EUR 8.0148 billion (18.2% of the total debt and 8.4% of GDP), dropping by EUR 396.1 million (4.7%) Y/Y. Long-term liabilities totalled EUR 36.0408 billion (81.8% of the total debt or 37.7% of GDP), growing by EUR 2.7083 billion (8.1%) Y/Y.

General government's gross external debt totalled EUR 9.4511 billion (9.9% of GDP), growing by EUR 2.4198 billion (34.4%) Y/Y.

The external liabilities of the central bank stood at EUR 1.9667 billion (2.1% of GDP), dropping by EUR 134.4 million (6,4%) Y/Y.

The external liabilities of other banks and money market funds totalled EUR 6.587 billion (6.9% of GDP), increasing by EUR 1.0127 billion (18.2%) Y/Y.

Other sectors' external debt equalled EUR 11.8145 billion (12.4% of GDP), dropping by EUR 1.2704 billion (9.7%) Y/Y.

The stock of intercompany lending amounted to EUR 14.2363 billion (14.9% of GDP) at end-June 2023, growing by EUR 284.5 million (2%) from end-June 2022. It held the largest share in external debt, equating to 32.3% at end-June 2023, compared with 33.4% at end-June 2022.
