The market for new cars in the countries of the European Union grew in July for the 12th month in a row, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) presented on Wednesday in Brussels and cited by Reuters.

Last month, 851,156 new vehicles were registered in the EU, 15.2%  more than in July 2022. However, the 6.3 million newly registered vehicles in the EU countries in the first 7 months of this year are 22% less compared to the same period of the pre-pandemic 2019, noted ACEA.

From the beginning of 2023 to the end of July, significant growth was recorded in the leading markets for cars in the European Union:- Spain (+21.9%), Italy (+20.9%).

In Bulgaria, 3,370 new cars were registered in July, which represents an increase of 19%  compared to the same month of 2022 (2,832 new cars).

During the first 7 months of the year, there were 20,992 newly registered cars in Bulgaria, which is an increase of 20.8% compared to the same period of 2022 (17,371 cars), according to ACEA data.

The share of new electric vehicles registered in the European Union powered entirely by batteries (BEVs) increased in July 2023 to 13.6%  of all newly registered cars compared to 9.8%  in the same month last year.

In Bulgaria, the share of newly registered BEVs last month was 5%. The most new cars were with gasoline engines (71.5%), followed by those with diesel engines (20.7%).

Significant growth in sales of new electric cars was reported in Belgium (+235.9%) and Greece (+152.4%). Bulgaria is in third place among EU countries according to this indicator, with newly registered electric cars in Bulgaria increasing by 150% on an annual basis. In July of this year, they were 170, and in the same month of 2022, they were 68.
