Opportunities to invest in labour market development and in aligning labour skills with the expectations of the business community were presented to employers in Northeastern Bulgaria at a forum in Shumen on Tuesday, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the ministry reported. The event was attended by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and other cabinet members.

Some 47,000 people in the northeastern regions of Shumen, Varna, Dobrich, Razgrad and Targovishte found employment during the last programming period thanks to investments in job retention and creation. About 4,400 local employers used BGN 120 million in EU and national funding for labour market development over that period, Labour and Social Policy Minister Ivanka Shalapatova told the conference.

She noted that an impressive BGN 1 billion-plus has been allocated to help the nation's workforce adapt to the new requirements of the labour market in the period 2023-2027. The money has been secured under the National Employment Promotion Plan, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Human Resources Development Programme.
