A meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev and sunflower and grain producers and processors concluded that there is no evidence of a shortage of sunflower oil for the Bulgarian market. The price of oil is not expected to rise either.
Vatev said: "At the moment it appears that there is too much oil in the processors' warehouses, and they are unable to buy all the sunflower. We will see what happens after September 15 and whether the EU will extend the ban on imports of certain goods from Ukraine, including sunflower, or lift it".
Deputy Agriculture Minister Alexander Iotzev emphasized that it is important to project the current situation with an eye to the future, when relations are normalized both internationally and between the representatives of the various links in the chain.
The industry representatives pointed out that the situation has been analyzed in view of the transitional sunflower surplus and the expected harvest, as well as the stocks of unsold sunflower oil and how the ban on imports of Ukrainian sunflower affects sunflower prices and processors. President of the Oilseed Oil Producers Association in Bulgaria, Yani Yanev, said: "I am satisfied with the meeting, a productive conversation took place".
Radoslav Hristov of the National Grain Producer Association said that there are sufficient quantities of Bulgarian high-quality sunflower and sunflower oil.
The next meeting is scheduled for mid-September.
