Bulgaria has abandoned its request for a ban on wheat imports from Ukraine, Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev told reporters here on Thursday. On the other hand, Bulgaria told the European Commission (EC) that it insists that the import ban applies to three commodities: sunflower, unrefined cooking oil and dry milk.

Vatev said that the objective is to seek balance in the agri-food chain and favour Bulgarian produce over imported products.

Vatev added that the other Member States, which have been in dialogue with the EC since earlier, have secured huge sums for infrastructure projects. He gave Poland as an example, as it received EUR 1 billion and added: "We are at zero, because we joined the dialogue late, but our infrastructure will also need such support and we are yet to join this conversation".
