A technical mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) between March 20 and 31 reviewed the probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) level 1 of units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy N-plant, the plant's press office announced here on Friday.

The subject of the independent international review was the latest update of PSA, level 1, of Kozloduy's units 5 and 6, carried out in the 2020 - 2022 period. The analysis covers the following areas: internal events, internal fires, internal flooding, seismic, all external events specific to Kozloduy, other internal events and consideration of the impact between units at full power, low power and reactor shutdown.

The aim of the mission was to establish that the scope, data used, models and approaches applied and results obtained in the PSA are in line with IAEA safety standards and internationally recognized good practices.

The verification team included six external experts from IAEA partner organizations from Armenia, Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Croatia, the USA and three IAEA representatives. They carried out a review of the PSA documentation and model and a walk-through of the site.

The inspection concluded on 31 March with a final meeting during which the IAEA team experts presented the mission report with the results of their work, which will contribute to maintaining the high quality of the PSA and ensuring the safe operation of Kozloduy's Units 5 and 6, the N-plant said.
