Alexandrina Pendatchanska and Gabriela Georgieva will sing the title role in Puccini's Turandot at the Sofia Opera on January 10 and 11. This is a debut in the role for Pendatchanska and a signature part for Georgieva.

On both nights, Jorge de Leon will sing Prince Calaf - the role in which he was applauded at the opening of the season. Stanislava Momekova and Silvia Teneva will sing Liu. Grigor Palikarov will conduct the production directed by Plamen Kartaloff.

Ioanna Manoledaki is the designer and Violeta Dimitrova is the chorus master.

Turandot is one of the most impressive operas, a vivid example of the growing interest in exotic plots in the first decades of the 20th century. The opera is set in China, where the suitors for the hand of the beautiful but heartless Princess Turandot must solve three riddles and a wrong answer leads to their execution.
