Twelve Bulgarian artists will showcase their works in an exhibition titled Six Winters... One Summer, featuring paintings and sculptures. The exhibition will run from April 3 to 26 at the Union of Bulgarian Artists’ gallery, the organizers said on Friday.
Curated by Elitsa Terzieva, Plamen Monevski, and Stanislav Pamukchiev, the exhibition brings together works by Nikolay Maistorov, Zahari Kamenov, Emil Popov, Milko Bozhkov, Stanislav Pamukchiev, Svilen Blazhev, Ivan Rusev, Chavdar Petrov, Ziyatin Nuriev, Veselin Nachev, Stilian Atanasov, and Ivo Bistrichki.
The Six Winters... One Summer is an ambitious project showcasing the creative potential of 12 prominent contemporary Bulgarian artists, the curatorial team said. Each artist presents seven paintings or sculptures, along with seven drawings that accompanied their creative process.
The title of the exhibition is a poetic metaphor exploring the energies and symbolic contrasts of opposites: day and night, winter and summer, north and south, light and darkness, earth and sky, active and passive, masculine and feminine, Pamukchiev explained. These contrasts are interconnected, opposing, and transforming into one another, he added.
Pamukchiev also noted that the theme has led to surprising and intriguing artistic discoveries among established artists, each with their unique style. The newly created works, organized into thematic cycles, further enrich and expand the artistic vision of the participating artists.
