Bulgarian citizens should refrain from travelling to the capital Lima and the province of Callao in Peru, the Foreign Ministry says on its website. In view of the state of emergency declared in the capital Lima and the neighboring province of Callao, as well as the rise in criminal activities in the area in recent days, the Foreign Ministry recommends that Bulgarian citizens refrain from travelling to these regions, except if absolutely necessary. The state of emergency will be in force for 30 days, the Foreign Ministry adds.

The ministry asks Bulgarian citizens on the territory of Lima and the neighboring provinces to restrict their movement in the streets, to regularly check the local official channels and stay informed about warning signals and safety measures undertaken by the authorities.

In case Bulgarian citizens in the Republic of Peru need any assistance, they can turn to the Bulgarian diplomatic mission in Brazil, by calling +55 61 32236193, as well as mobile phone number +55 61 986023360 outside office hours, or send an e-mail message to Embassy.Brasilia@mfa.bg.

The President of Peru declared a state of emergency and ordered the sending of soldiers to help the police get a grip on the wave of violence, following widespread protests a day after a popular singer was shot dead.
