“National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova on Friday applied the parliamentary rules in an unacceptable manner, without taking into account their spirit and purpose, and thus dissolved an opposition parliamentary group,” Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) said in a statement.
"Despite the fact that we are defending opposing values and interests, MPs elected from MECh should be able to represent their constituents with all the rights that stem from the rules of procedure, no matter what we or the ruling party think of their political beliefs and goals," the position said.
"We urge Ms Kiselova to reinstate the parliamentary group of the MECh in the register of parliamentary groups in accordance with the spirit of the rules and not to apply procedural tricks to silence the opposition, as has happened more and more often recently," CC-DB said.
In the early hours on Friday, the Parliament leader announced that the MECh parliamentary group ceased to exist after the resignation of its member Samuil Slavov left it with nine members, one fewer than the minimum required for the formation of a parliamentary group.
