site.btaArt Auction in Sofia Sets Record for Bulgarian Market by Selling Pascin for EUR 60,000
An art auction organized by Artmark in Sofia on December 17 saw 126 artworks sell for nearly EUR 400,000, the organizers reported. Jules Pascin's piece Hermine David and Her Friends painted in 1917 set a new record for the Bulgarian art market after selling for EUR 60,000.
The piece painted in oil on canvas entered the auction with an initial estimated price of between EUR 15,000 and 25,000.
Other pieces included Still Life with Thimbles by Elisaveta Konsulova-Vazova which sold for EUR 10,000, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev's The Old Mill for EUR 16,000, Dechko Uzunov's The Sunflower Garden for EUR 11,000, Nikola Tanev's Still Life with Apples and Blue Teapot for EUR 18,000.
The auction, which lasted 6 hours and 30 minutes, attracted 170 bidders. Before being auctioned off, the paintings were displayed as part of an exhibition at Sofia's Artmark from December 4 to 16.
